My first taste of freedom

Mon premier bijou de liberté

My sweets,
Mauritian culture is a rich heritage, woven with tradition and history. And it is in this richness that everything began for me, long before Lakaz Bizou.

As a child, when I passed jewelry store windows, I always stopped. Systematically. As if my destiny was already written somewhere, between two displays and a ray of sunshine. My mom, she said no to me — of course, I already had earrings. But I wanted to change. I wanted to choose. I wore the same pair for over ten years. A gold pair, demure and unique, the one I had been given and that no one questioned.
Then, at 15, I stood up to mom. And I bought my first costume hoop earring.

I don't think I had ever been so happy for such a small piece of metal.
Maybe that's the real beginning of Lakaz Bizou. Not the day I opened the store, but that day, with that hoop earring, when I understood that a piece of jewelry could be a choice, a claim, a small piece of freedom that you attach to yourself.

Curator, not creator — and that's a deliberate choice

At Lakaz Bizou, I am a curator, not a creator. I don't handcraft every piece of jewelry, but I choose each one with the same high standards as if I had made them myself. Each piece I select transports me to a specific moment in my life: a color, a shape, a name I give it. Nothing is left to chance.

Because a piece of jewelry is never just a piece of jewelry. It's a childhood window memory, a hard-won hoop earring at 15, a lagoon you haven't forgotten even thousands of kilometers from the island. And today, through Lakaz Bizou, I want to take you with me on this journey — that of an island, a story, and all the small moments of life that slip into each piece I choose for you.

See you soon, my sweets.
